Dialog: "
...the guy who had just been on the bench left a pool of sweat and didn't even bother to wipe it away."

We use the past perfect to talk about something that happened in the past before another event occurred. In the dialog, Sarah went to the abs machine to do some stomach crunches; before she used the machine someone else had used it.

Words often used with the past perfect are: just, already, never, yet, and ever.

HAD + VERB (past participle)

  • Although I had been to Europe many times, I had never been to Spain until last year.
  • When my husband and I arrived at the car, I was the first to notice that someone had broken into it.
  • Alex didn't want to go to the movies because he had already seen the film.
  • My boss had just left the office when I got there.
  • We went to Disneyworld again because my youngest daughter hadn't been there yet.
  • Had you ever worked for an internet company before you started working here?

Sobre esta aula

For some, it's a wonderful vice; for others, a necessary evil. The gym! You either hate it or love it, but there's no getting around it, everyone's got to exercise. Something that can turn anyone off from going to the gym, though, is those who have no gym etiquette! If you're one of those who doesn't wipe your sweat off the gym equipment, shame on you!
