I'd like you to send in three sentences using the third conditional: one in the affirmative, one in the negative and one using the interrogative - the question form.

I would have taken more and more time to find meuingles.com if I had not used my free hours (I'm on vacations) to search an online english test on Google last week, which means you have a good SEO Guy, hehehe.
If I had had money, I would have seen the fireworks in Rio.
And, the last one, what would you have done if you had attended Compenhague 15 last month?

Let's take a look at you sentence: "I would have taken longer to find meuInglês if I had not used my free hours to search for (to search for something) an online English test on Google last week, which means you have a good SEO guy." Excellent job, T! Well done!

If I had won Mega Sena, I would have quit my job / I would have gone with you if I had finished my work / What would you have done if you had had the same chance?

if had,had more courage, I would've kissed him.

Por: Ash em 07/01/2010 às 12:40h
Hahaha! Good one, Mira25! Your sentence is almost perfect!
Só precisa colocar "I" depois de "if" e tirar a vírgula depois do primeiro "had".
If I had had more courage...
Ou
If I'd had more courage...

If I had gone in the time, I would have seen the apresenctation.
They would've seen at the directors, if they hadn't gotten ever later.
What would I had doone if you hadn't goone?

Por: Ash em 11/01/2010 às 11:40h
Very good, rcpb! Let me just make a few adjustments to your sentences:
If I had gone left in the on time, I would have seen the apresenctation.
Não entendi muito bem a sua segunda frase, mas vou tentar corrigir:
They would've seen at the directors, if they hadn't gotten ever there later. (??)
What would I had have doone if you hadn't goone?

If I had met you at the party, we would have danced all night long.
If I hadn't been so shy, I would have told you how much I loved you.
What would you have done if you had met me at the party?

Hahaha! Great sentences, Genilton!

If my team had won the last football game, I would have been in the first Championship division. I wouldn´t have been so unhappy if this don´t happened.
So, If the players had played profisionay, probably my team would had been in the first division yet.

Por: Tamara em 14/01/2010 às 09:29h
Hi, George! Quase lá. Observe as correções. If your team had won the last soccer game, it would be in the first division. You wouldn't be so unhapppy if they hadn't lost. If the players had played with professionalism, they'd be in the first division already. Good job! By the way, qual é o seu time? Abs.

Thanks Tamara.
I understand I have to study a bit more this class.
By the way, my soccer team is Náutico. A small team in Pernambuco.

If I had knew it before, now we would have been bankrupt.

If I had knew it before, now we've been bankrupt. (Is it correct too?)

(Se eu a tivesse conhecido antes, agora estariámos falidos.)
Foto
Por: Ash em 14/01/2010 às 17:05h
Hmmm, #fernando#, what you want to say is in the second conditional (in Portuguese), but you've written it in the third conditional (in English).
Why don't you check out the grammar page again to get a better idea of how we use the third conditional.

If I had studied hard, I would have learned the third conditional.. It´s boring!

Well, I think you've learned the third conditional, your sentence is great!

If I had had money, I would have traveled to England.
If I hadn't seen the money on the floor, I wouldn't have take the bus.
What you would have done if you had seen the money on the floor?
Foto
Por: monicabic em 26/01/2010 às 18:49h
Excellent, Goldani! Almost perfect! One observation only: "I would have taken the bus."
If I had seen the money on the floor I would have taken the bus too....rsrsrs

If María had listened her parents, she would have learnt a lot of things.
If you hadn't studied so much, you would haven't passed the exam.
What would you have done if you had met your favourite famous in the last concert?
Foto
Por: monicabic em 31/01/2010 às 14:18h
Lamia, great job, just a few observations:
- we always say "listen to"
- you wouldn't have passed
- what did you mean by "favourite famous"?
Foto
Por: lamia em 01/02/2010 às 08:15h
Hi Monica, thank you so much. I'll try again:
If María had listened to her parents, she would have learnt a lot of things.
If you hadn't studied so much, you wouldn't have passed the exam
"Favourite famous" is your favourite actor or singer. I don't know if this expression is correct
kkk
Foto
Por: Josh em 01/02/2010 às 12:18h
Great job, Lamia! Well done! These are some difficult and complex sentences you've written. "Famoso" in English would be "famous person (actor, singer, performer, movie star)" I me Bono from U2 once here in Rio. I spoke to him and he kissed my wife! Can you believe that?!?
Foto
Por: lamia em 23/02/2010 às 07:21h
jajajajaja owwwww Increible!! I'm very happy for you. My favourite actor is Will Smith although I don't Know if I'll met some day, it's very complicate but not impossible!! kkkk

Hi!
If I hadn't tried,I wouldn't have won the race.
If I had met him before, I would have invited him for my party.
What you would have done, if you had found a gun in the restroom?
Foto
Por: Josh em 03/02/2010 às 14:58h
Three excellent sentences, Arlete! Great job! Let's take a look at the only problem, and it has nothing to do with the use of the conditional: in your second sentence, we say "to invite someone to something". In Portuguese you would say "convidar alguém para alguma coisa" The "para" in this case will have to be "to". To tell you the truth, I don't know what I would have done if I had found a gun in the restroom.

If I had traveled to Chile I would be happier.
If you had learned english, would you have a better job?
If I hadn´t traveled I would haven´t known Buenos Aires.

Katys, one observation only:
If I hadn't traveled I wouldn't have known Buenos Aires.

If I hadn't visited England, I wouldn't known you.
Foto
Por: Josh em 15/02/2010 às 07:43h
Almost, Erigleidson. Your second sentence is missing one important thing - the "have" in "would have + past participle - "If I hadn't visited England, I wouldn't have known you.

If they had token with the boss, it wouldn´t had happened.

I would have spoken sooner if I had known her intention.

What would you have done if you had discovered earlier that she betrays you?
Foto
Por: Josh em 15/02/2010 às 07:57h
Great job, Degga! I guess what you had wanted to say in the first sentence instead of "token" was "spoken". In your last sentence, you have to maintain the verb tense in the past perfect - "...had discovered earlier that she had betrayed you?"
Foto
Por: degga06 em 15/02/2010 às 16:56h
Ah! Ok Josh! In the first sentence I though that I should used "to talk" but I would had used "to speak", right?

Thank you Josh!
Foto
Por: Tamara em 17/02/2010 às 14:44h
Hi, degga. "Spoken with" or "Talk to"...tanto faz. Agora veja as correções no seu último comentário: "In the first sentence I think that I should have used "to talk" but I would had used "to speak", right?" Abs.
Foto
Por: degga06 em 17/02/2010 às 16:06h
OK Tamara. Why do I use the verb "Think" in the simple present? Can´t I use in the simple past?

If I had studied earlier I would not have that studied now.
We would have played soccer , if had had the time.

Fabio, just a few detailsÇ
-If I had studied earlier I would not have to study now. (não teria que estudar)
In the second sentence you just forgot the I - If I had had the time.

- If she had given him a hug, He would have felt himself better.
- If we had came earlier, we would have seen Ana.
- She wouldn’t have bought the car, if she didn’t had won that money.

Almost perfect:
- if we had come earlier....
- ...if she hadn't won that money.
