Hi There. Well, there’re a couple of kinds of negotiations that I know, one of them is win-win situation and another one is lose-win. As the name itself suggests win-win situation is when both sides end up winning, in other words, it’s a great negotiation for both, on the contrary to lose-win that just one of the side ends up winning and for sure another one loses. My tip is try to close deals with win-win negotiations, thus both sides will be pleased and I’m sure that the service level and the customer’s satisfaction will be much better, so it's easier to happen future likely deals. I hope my written make any sense. Great business lesson, by the way. See you

Hey, Fernando. For sure a win-win situation is best for both parties involved in a negotiation. However, if the negotiation is not successful for both parties, you may have a win-lose situation, where, as you said, one side leaves the negotiating table without getting what it wanted.

In my opinion, listening is essential for a good negotiation. We have to pay a lot of attention when we are talking to the customers in order to discover their real needs. While we are listening we are selling, because as they are talking, they are giving us useful information so that we can supply their needs. That is all. I hope have made myself clear.

In a negotiation you have to be well prepared with strong arguments and enough munition to counter attack the one at the other side of the table. Negotiation at the end of the day means a diplomatic battle.

I agree, . Having enough ammunition to counterattack (uma palavra só) is absolutely fundamental to reaching a diplomatic compromise. Great comments!

I think a great negotiation tip is to study every small detail of the issue before going to the negotiation table. You need to know your products and services, to know your customer needs, to know your concurrents, and to study very well the historic of your relationship with that customer. So, you will have answers to his questions and you'll be able to make the right offers.

Once again, Genilton, very insightful comments. One thing I'd like to point out is the use of "historic" (um histórico). This word is used to talk about something significant that occurred at some point in the past - "An historic moment in our company's history" - for example. The word, or words, you might be looking for may be simply "...history of your relationship..." or maybe "...track record with that customer."

Thanks for the tips, Josh. So, you must study very well the history of your relationship with that customer.

Unfortunately, I don't have any talent to be a great business negociating. Whatever deal I had been trying going through I've always endded up feeling myself ripped off.

I feel the same way. I don't have any talent to be a great business negotiator. I'm terrible at negotiating. Whatever deal I had been trying to close, I always ended up feeling myselfripped off. The last part of your comment should be put in the present simple, because it's something that always happens: Whatever deal I try to close, I always end up feeling ripped off. The only way to become a great negotiator, so they tell me, is to practice, practice, practice!

Thanks, Josh. We have a saying, "tree trunk that was born crook it goes to die crook".I mean, I'm never going to learn to negotiate.Continuing on, I'll end up feeling ripped off if I try to close a deal.

Josh. In the vocabulary area, when I click to listen the word "Service Levels" you speak "Sales Levels". Am I correct ? Thanks.

You are absolutely right!!! I'll change that ASAP! Thanks for picking that up. If I may correct your sentence - remember that you always 'listen to' something. Ok?

I think the most important thing to get success in any negotiation is to be polite with the other part. You also have to create an warm enviromment, in which both negotiators can feel themselves well and relaxed.

Trere are a lot of points we must pay attention when we are signing any kind of business contract, one of them is to buy good things with lower spend. To ge a deeper discount is always the best way to reduce the price, but you can't reduce the quality of the service too.One day I am going to be a big and famous employer and I will get some contracts too...Ohh!! It is just a jocke..Sometimes is wonderful to dream.
