Prepositions of place are a piece of cake, but a couple of hard ones are "For and To".
Is there any lesson about that?

Selminha, we have lots of lessons on prepositions and if you go to "busca" and type in prepositions you can get a list of these lessons. However, we don`t have one on "for and to" but it's a great suggestion for a future lesson.

Hi. Great lesson about prepositions of place. Prepositions as well as Phrasal verbs usually are nightmares for students. I myself am one of them. lol. Luckily you guys that don’t have any problems with prepositions. I wish I talk like you one day. Lol. Actually, I don’t really worry myself with prepositions; I think that natives can comprehend us even though making some mistakes with them, can’t it? Of course sometimes natives can get us the wrong way but most of time I don’t think so. I say that because I’ve met foreign people talking Portuguese and changing all prepositions and in spite of that I could understand them. I think prepositions you can catch them naturally, in other words, as time goes by you acquire them naturally and no longer thinks in any rule, it just comes out of your mind. I'm looking forward for this day. lol lol... Just my 2 cents guys.
See you

That's the right attitude, Fernando! As they say, practice makes perfect. And you know what, sometimes people don't get each other even when speaking in their native tongue! lol! Just a tip: either you get something/someone or you don't get it/him/her, but get us the wrong way isn't really something we would say. And one other thing: "I think natives can comprehend us even though we make some mistakes when speaking with them, can't they?" You are right again. Your 2 cents are always welcome here! lol!

Sometimes, I have a lot of difficult with preposition. Because, we can be on, in or at the beach. I wonder if I am wrong, but for example, I watched several volley tournaments in the beach. I used to sunbathe on the beach. My friend has a house at the beach. Am I wrong? Please, correct me.

Yes, RobertGC, prepositions can be very confusing sometimes - in any language! First, only on or at the beach can be used. Each one has a different meaning. For example you could say: "I watched several volleyball tournaments at/on the beach." "At" is the specific location: "at the beach". "On" would mean the position on the surface of the sand: "on the beach". The same is true for your friend's house. If it is at the beach it is located in the area around the beach. However, if it is on the beach, it is physically constructed on the surface of the sand. I hope that helped a little! See you soon, and happy studying, especially prepositions!

Hello Josh! I'm having some problems with the exercises section again. The section "Complete the answers" has 5 itens, but I can only see 3 sentences (I cannot see sentences 2 and 4). I've tried Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but my browser is showing it like this: 1) Here it is, my ____ : a 1969 Ford Mustang, in vintage condition. I’ve been fixing it up for 10 years now. 2) 3) Don’t mention it. ___ showing you around town. 4) 5) You must be thirsty. Can I ___ you a glass of water or a soft drink?

My sentences using prepositions of place are: I live in a suburban area. If you want to visit me, you must take the bus at downtown, make a 20 minute trip and stop at the last bus stop. My house is the third on your right.

Hi! I have problems in choose when I have to use "at" or "at the". Does exist a rule about it? My example: "We will meet on Friday at Friday's". The correct is "at Friday's" or "at the Friday's"?
Foto
Por: Ash em 16/12/2009 às 15:35h
Great question, Diogo!
When it's a proper name, like Friday's, we do not use "the" before it. Take a look at these examples:
We were at Felice's. (proper name)
We were at the restaurant. (specific restaurant, but no proper name)
We were at a restaurant. (no specific restaurant and no specific name)
