Dialog: "Now if I were to place this order of 1000 cases, would they be dispatched immediately?"

We use the second conditional to talk about a situation that is not a current possibility and may or may not be a possibility in the future. In the dialog sentence the person is talking about a hypothetical situation; it's not a current reality.

  • If I didn't have so much work to do, I would go to the party with you.
  • If Sasha were just a couple of inches taller, she could* be a model.
  • Mike might* not be so sad if he hadn't broken up with Rebecca.
  • I wouldn't do that if I were you.
  • If you could live in another country, what country would you live in?

*Note that sometimes we use "could", or "might" as a conditional instead of "would".
