WOULD RATHER
Dialog: "I think I'd rather take up golf."

"Would rather" is used to talk about preference.  The negative is "would rather not". When there are two options of something to do, and you wish to express which one you prefer you use "would rather (do)...than (do)". When followed by a verb, the verb is always in the infinitive without "to".
