RELATIVE CLAUSES WITH WHATEVER, WHOEVER, AND WHICHEVER
Dialog: "I'll do whatever you want to help us reduce our energy consumption in this house, if you cook whatever I want for dinner every night!"

"Whatever", "whoever", and "whichever" clauses are used when we wish to talk about things or people that are not known to us or indefinite. Constructed from the interrogative words "who", "what", and "which", these words express a level of uncertainty regarding outcome of a situation.

1) WHATEVER

  • He will do whatever he can to be promoted.
  • Whatever you do, don't eat my cake!
  • You can watch whatever you like on TV.

2) WHOEVER

  • Whoever loses this game will be eliminated from the competition.
  • You can dance with whoever you like.
  • Whoever turned off the lights is conserving energy!

3) WHICHEVER

  • Whichever one of your friends slept over last night didn't make his bed.
  • Whichever of these books are yours, please put them away when you're done with them.
  • You can drink whichever of those sodas you want.

Sobre esta aula

Nowadays it’s hip to be green!  It’s not just the hippies who are concerned about the environment anymore; even the conservatives are begrudgingly admitting that something needs to be done to protect our Planet from extinction. Over the course of the past two decades, concern about the sustainability of our energy consumption has increased exponentially. In this dialog, Ashley and Josh will talk about personal energy conservation, along with vocabulary related to current trends in "green" energy consumption.
