REGRETS
Dialog: “Sorry, David, I wish I hadn’t seen it.”

We use wish and if only when we are sorry something didn’t happen.

1) WISH 

FORM: WISH + PAST PERFECT

•    I wish you had come to my party. (The person didn’t go to the party)
•    I wish I had been born in Italy. (The person isn’t Italian)

Dialog: "If only you had seen it from my perspective."

2) IF ONLY

FORM: IF ONLY + PAST PERFECT

•    If only we had left earlier. (We didn’t leave earlier)
•    If only David had bought me a present! (David didn’t buy her a present)
